Sister date

This morning started early- like every Tuesday morning does. But on THIS particular Tuesday I didn’t have to rush off to work after teaching spin class! I told my class last week that I would do an extra-long ride today, since I had nowhere else I needed to be. We ended up going for 90 minutes- it was awesome! And seriously, the time does just fly by. I love teaching spin so much (as I’ve said many times)- but I especially love teaching it when I don’t have to rush out of the gym to be anywhere afterwards. I also had time to stretch and foam roll- something I never, ever get to do after my Tuesday class.

After a nice soak in the tub at home, I made myself some breakfast. Instead of the same old bowl of oatmeal, I decided to try my hand at making an oatmeal “bake.” I used pretty much all of the same ingredients that I put in my standard oatmeal + a little baking powder. I also added a hint of cardamon. I can’t get enough of this spice ever since I made these cookies last week. I forgot how much flavor it can bring!

I cooked my oatmeal in a pot and then transferred it into a little pan and heated in the toaster oven for 20 minutes at 350˚. It was crunchy on the top and bottom and soft in the middle. In the future, I’d probably put it into two little ramekins instead.

Topped with sunflower butter, of course.

It was good- but I still like regular ol’ oatmeal in a bowl better!

Later in the morning, my stepmom dropped my little sister, Keating off at my house for our sister-date. I had promised to take her to get a pedicure about two months ago, so we were long overdue! Keating is a freshman in high school- I was a senior in high school when she was born. We have the same dad and different moms- but she is basically mini-me. (Although she is a lot smarter about some things than I was at her age and doesn’t do “bad stuff” like I did at 14.)

We chatted about life over pedicures

Keating said “I’m not very good at taking pictures.” 🙂

It was really nice to have some girl time- and it’s always nice to have your feet all dolled up!

I went against the ‘norm’ and got some sparkle. Go me!

Like my bunions? Ugh. They suck. Surgery will be removing the big one seen to the right (my left foot) at some point- but that also means months of recovery with no exercise… really don’t want to think about that.

Anyway.

After our pedis, we went to grab lunch at Chipotle. My little sister had never been! She got a burrito and I got my standard salad- topped with fajitas veggies, salsa and carnitas. They even have brown rice there now!

Sooooo goooooood. Keating loved her food, too!

She also requested that we run over to Wegman’s (in the same shopping center) since she had only been once a long time ago. I was happy to oblige!

And we had someone take a cell phone pic of us in the international foods section.

Hot.

Keating is very open-minded about food and loves to try new things- it’s just one of the many things that I love about her.

My stepmom met us there to pick her up, and then I did a little shopping (shocker) and made my way home.

I’m trying to find the motivation to be productive during my week off, but all I want to do is sit on my butt. And the pouring rain doesn’t help. Maybe I just need the rest and relaxation time and shouldn’t kid myself anymore… 🙂

Hope you are having a great Tuesday!

Do you have siblings? Are you close with them?

I have a half brother and half sister. Same dad, different mom too. They are not as young as your sister though. They’re 24 and 21.

  2. Any day that involves a pedi and Chipotle is a great day! Looks like you all had an awesome time, it’s so nice that you got to hang out with her (love her name!) I have two older sisters and close with them but not in a talk every day kind of way.

  3. I am very close with all of my siblings, and there’s 8 of us. We just love each other and are really great friends.

Different breakfast options always sound so good but in the end, I always want to use a spoon to dig into a bowl of oats.

Awww. . . so much fun! My sister is 6 years younger than I am, and I refer to her as my clone.

I’ve seen a lot of people getting sparkly nail polish recently. I like the color you picked out!

It has been ages since I’ve been to Chipotle. We don’t have one in Alaska.

Also, I have been loving my extra time in the morning to really get a good workout, foam roll, stretch, and do abs.

I know, Michelle- doesn’t being able to work out on your own schedule make you long for summer break?
And no Chipotle? That is nuts! They’re popping up everywhere around here.

  5. What a fun day! I have 2 brothers (24 and 22) and 1 sister who is 18.

  6. Looks like a fun sister date. Pedicures are so much fun 🙂

I have a sister (23), brother (20), and another brother (16). I love all my siblings but I occasionally think it would have been awesome to be an only child!
