Daylight Savings WeekendPosted: March 12, 2012
Hello Monday. Yawn.
This time change thing is really throwing me off! I could barely get out of bed this morning (I actually hit the snooze button, which I never do!)- it just seemed too early! And driving to work in the dark is not fun.
But really, I shouldn’t complain- I’m coming off of a fabulous weekend!
Saturday morning began with sleeping in (a.k.a. not waking up to an alarm!), a good workout at the gym, and then shopping at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Shockingly, lunch was also thrown into the mix, courtesy of the Whole Foods salad bar. I dragged Greg along to help me shop faster (I tend to linger for a long time when I’m by myself). When we got back home, we started preparing for dinner that night. Melissa, who is was one of my best friends in high school, and her husband Jordan were coming over for dinner. I was so excited to have them over- I can’t even remember the last time I hung out with Melissa, but let’s just say that she had never even met Greg, so it had been a long time. Melissa and I have so much history and funny memories and I talked about them to Greg all day long. I’m pretty sure that he’s sick of hearing about all of the “badass” stuff we did in high school- but man, we were pretty awesome back in the day. (And we still are!)
I was happy to put the dining room table to use and decked it out for our company- I even picked up some flowers from Trader Joe’s.
For dinner, we made chicken with a chardonnay sauce (super easy and quick!), freekeh and my go-to salad with roasted butternut squash, apples, toasted walnuts and goat cheese (and an apple vinaigrette whipped up in the Vitamix!)
We drank the rest of the chardonnay that was used for the chicken
My dinner (in horrible lighting!):

After dinner, we enjoyed a very simple dessert of Breyer’s All Natural Vanilla ice cream (the best ice cream flavor ever, in my opinion) with some sliced strawberries and a little dessert wine.
I also broke out this box of cookies that I (impulse) bought at Trader Joe’s.
Oh, man are they good. I think you can have 8 of them for 140 calories (or something like that)- so if you’re strong enough to limit yourself to one or two, it’s no big deal (but it would be very easy to have 8. or 10. or an entire sleeve.)
It was so much fun laughing with Melissa and talking about stories from high school. Man, those were the days!
One of our absolute favorite movies in high school was Dazed and Confused. We must have watched it at least 100 times and could quote the entire movie. Ironically, it was on tv the night before (which kept me from going to bed at a decent hour). I can’t believe that movie came out over 18 years ago. 18 years!!!! I remember seeing when it was brand new (at age 14!). That makes me feel really, really old.
What an awesome time- I can’t wait to hang out with them again- and to have some girl time with Melissa where we can just go on and on about high school memories (and our husbands won’t have to listen to it!).
Sunday morning came way too early, thanks to the hour lost from daylight savings. Somehow, I managed to drag my butt out of bed early enough to do solo Bodypump before teaching Spinning class at 8:30. I was actually shocked that my class was more than half full- I expected everyone to sleep in and ease into the adjustment! I gotta say- the members at my gym are rock stars.
I came home, drink some whey protein and made a bowl of oatmeal and waited for Greg to get home from his mountain bike ride. We went out to run some errands (including the Verizon store, because I wanted to check on my ‘new every two’ upgrade status, which I can get next month! Hello iPhone!) and came back home to eat lunch. We were SO happy to see that baseball was on! It was so good to see the Sox play, even if it was just a spring training game. Our plan was to take the dogs hiking after lunch, but neither of us felt like driving anywhere. Instead, we took them on a nice, long walk and enjoyed the beautiful weather and sunshine.
We took pictures of each other with our phones… obviously I didn’t pay attention to the sunlight in back of Greg and Jackson.
The dogs loved the walk, but were just as happy being in the backyard chewing and tugging on sticks.
Signs of spring are everywhere- and I love it!
The trees are starting to bud (and some of the fruit trees have already blossomed!)
Our tulips are starting to peek out of the ground- and will be blooming in no time!
And this has nothing to do with spring, but I just love our little bear that sits on the front porch. We bought along the roadside between Frisco and Breckenridge, Colorado right after we got engaged. Greg brought him in a big reusable grocery bag on the plane when we came home from that trip- which was not the easiest thing to do!
Some time recently a piece of wood broke off the bottom- I have no idea how or why….
The weather definitely called for some grilling, which is Greg’s duty.
I was beyond happy to be able to photograph my dinner at 7 pm in natural light!!!
And since there’s a half-full container of Breyer’s in my freezer, dinner was followed up with repeat of dessert from the night before. 🙂
Now it’s back to the grind…. spring break is just two weeks away!
Were you affected by daylight savings? What was something fun that you did this weekend?
