Visiting UMBC (10 years later!)Posted: April 6, 2012
I am having am extremely hard time believing that next month, it will have been ten years since I graduated college. TEN YEARS!!!! Seriously, where has that time gone? I really feel like it’s only been about two years… maybe three.
I absolutely loved my college experience. I wouldn’t change it for anything. Well, except maybe I’d get a degree in exercise science rather than graphic design…
I spent four wonderful years at UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County) and lived on campus the entire time. I loved it! I was an R.A. my senior year, which was a lot of fun. I made some amazing friends during that time, many of which I still keep in touch with and see often. And I have to say- Facebook definitely makes staying in touch a little easier.
Yesterday I met up with my friend April (who also went to UMBC and was one of my roommates during my sophomore and junior years) and we took a stroll down memory lane. April’s sister Niki is currently a student at UMBC and met up with us to walk around. I’m sure that I embarrassed her thoroughly with all of my dramatic comments and crazy nostalgia. 🙂
I went back and visited the dorm I lived in during my freshman year, where I was also an R.A. my senior year.
It’s crazy how much this dorm has changed! It underwent a major renovation over the last few years, and is actually really nice now.
It was kind of old and falling apart when I lived there, but it had a ton of character and I loved it.
Here’s the library where I spent a lot of time “studying”
And the Fine Arts (or “Farts” as we called it) building, where I also spent many, many hours…
I had my first graphic design class in this room!
I posed on the steps in the “UC” (University center) – do I look like I could pass for a student? 🙂
We also visited the gift shop to buy sweatshirts. I realized that I don’t have any UMBC clothing anymore- that needed to change!
After leaving the campus, April and I went to grab lunch near her apartment, which is about 15 minutes away. We had planned on going to this salad/wrap place that sounded awesome, but when we got there- the store was nowhere in sight! Apparently they had just up and moved and closed business in the middle of the night a short while back. Guess they need to update their website! Luckily, there was a Chipotle in the same shopping center.
I got my typical taco salad- with chicken this time. April had some awesome looking steak tacos.
Have you had the brown rice at Chipotle? Oh, man- it’s so good! I always ask for a side of it with my salad.
After lunch, we ventured over to Trader Joes, and I headed straight for the nut butter aisle. This is not the usual TJs that I go to, so I needed to check to see if they had the goods. And you know what?? THEY DID!!!!
After months and months of looking for this cookie butter at three different Trader Joe’s, I finally found it! I immediately dipped a spoon into it (and made April do the same) when we got back to April’s apartment. To be completely cheesy- it was love at first bite. Now, there is absolutely nothing nutritious about this cookie butter at all, so I will not be spreading it by the bucketful on any toast any time soon. But a spoonful for dessert- why not?! 🙂
April and I hung out and chatted for a while and then headed over to see our friend Monica (who lives near her) and her ADORABLE KIDS AND DOGS. They had just gotten a mini dachshund, and she is the cutest thing ever!!
I eventually made it back home, and modeled my awesome new UMBC sweatshirt for Greg and posed with one of my favorite “Retrievers” (UMBC’s mascot is “The Retriever”)
Check out the back! I love it!
It was an awesome day- but this break is going by WAY too quickly! Greg and I are heading out to one of our favorite trails to hike this morning, followed by lunch at Dogfish (I promised him that next time we headed down that way, we would go to Dogfish for lunch instead of Whole Foods :)).
Enjoy your Friday!!
Where did you go to college and what did you study? Do you get nostalgic for the good old days?
